Based in the heart of Shropshire within our County town of Shrewsbury, the Andy Miles Centre is located at the West Midlands Agriculatural Showground on the banks of the River Severn. The centre is named in honour of Andy Miles. An Explorer Scout Leader from 1st Edgmond Scout Group who was passionate about providing activities and in particular water activities for the youth of our community. Andy tragically died in 2009 whilst on camp at Bickley Coppice of a heart attack. He loved kayaks and canoes and was often found taking scouts on the river around Shrewsbury. After fundraising through the Scout Association and Andy’s family, in May 2011 the centre was opened. At the time it opened it was envisaged the centre would become a centre of excellence for kayaking and canoeing in Shropshire, open to all the young people in scouting, guiding and elsewhere.
