Shropshire Scouts Shooting Team have confirmed details of their annual County Shooting Competition, which will take place on 7–8 February 2026 at the NSRA Regional Indoor Range, Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton.
The popular event, which attracts Scouts, Explorer Scouts and adult members, will see competitors take part in air rifle, air pistol and sport crossbow disciplines. Organisers say the competition not only encourages self-discipline and safety awareness but also helps young people develop valuable stress management skills.
Over recent years, the county contest has seen a number of Shropshire Scouts progress to national level, with several now representing the GB Scouts Team.
Age-based classes will cover Juniors (under 13), Seniors (13–17) and Adults (18+). Events will include rifle shooting (bench-rested and standing), pistol shooting (two-hand and one-hand support), and sport crossbow for older entrants. Training in pistol and crossbow will be available during the weekend, but participants are expected to have some prior experience with air rifles.
The competition will run in half-day sessions, with results announced and medals presented after Sunday’s finals. Individual and team medals will be awarded, along with special recognition for the most improved Junior and Senior shooters compared to 2025.
Entry costs £12.50 per person, and early registration is strongly advised due to the event’s popularity. Teams must register by 11 January and confirm by 16 January 2026.
County Shooting Activity Team Leader John Dohoo encouraged groups to get involved:
“This competition is a fantastic opportunity for Scouts of all ages to develop their skills, enjoy some friendly competition, and maybe even discover the talent to progress to national level.”
